Medical Student Abstract Poster Competition

May 7, 2024 – Ohio medical students were recently invited to submit an abstract for poster presentation. This was an excellent opportunity for students to become involved in OSMA's Annual Meeting and to enhance their reputation both within and outside their institution—and to network with physicians about policy, research, career interests and more.

New Learning Tool on Substance Use Disorders Released

May 6, 2024 – The Ohio Substance Use Disorders Center of Excellence (SUD-COE) at Case Western Reserve University has released a new learning tool, “Clinical QuickNotes on Substance Use Disorders.” The QuickNotes provide brief overviews of various clinically relevant topics and are designed for busy physicians to review in just a few minutes.

The Social Determinants of Health: What Medical Professionals Need to Know

May 6, 2024 – Each day, patients’ health is affected—for better or for worse—by factors like income, education, access to fresh food, access to green space, or access to a safe living space and neighborhood. Healthcare professionals witness how these aspects, known as the social determinants of health (SDOH), influence the arc of a person’s life. Fortunately, clinicians and organizations can craft more effective and equitable care interventions by elevating their awareness of key aspects of SDOH.
